Honour for Horsham first aid volunteers

Three members of the Horsham Unit of St John Ambulance attended The Priory Chapel which is one of the few remaining Norman buildings in London on Tuesday 9th December 2014 to receive a Queens Chivalry Honour for their dedication to the organisation.

Cynthia White the adult unit manager who was made an officer said: “It was a very enjoyable day and I felt very honoured to have been invested as an Officer of our Order as recognition of my work with Horsham Division.”

Steve Strange who was made a Member of the order said: “I have been associated with St John since joining as an 8 year old boy in Crawley, attending an investiture after all these years was a wonderful experience for me. To be sat with members from all over the UK was an experience. The short service was very traditional and was for me the icing on the cake of my St John years.”

Keith Dale who was also made a Member of the Order said: “It was a remarkable experience but I felt humble to be in the presence of the priory council members. It was a special occasion and not one I will forget. I am proud to be a member of the organisation but still coming to terms with the nomination. The setting of the award ceremony was beautiful and very symbolic.”

Trevor Vaughan MBE SBStJ Horsham St John President said: “All three were are a shining example of how from an early age people, with first aid skills, can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.”

The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem (French: l’ordre très vénérable de l’Hôpital de Saint-Jean de Jerusalem), also referred to as the Order of St John and St John International, is a royal order of chivalry established in 1831, incorporated in 1888, and found today throughout the Commonwealth of Nations, “to prevent and relieve sickness and injury, and to act to enhance the health and well-being of people anywhere in the world.”
