In March club members raised £768 taking part in the ‘Swimarathon’ organised by Horsham Lions.

50 per cent went to the Lions project to provide night flying equipment for West Sussex Air Ambulance and 50% went to the Lifesaving Club.

The club in turn decided that they would donate half of their share to ‘Emily’s Trust’.

The Trust has been set up by Emily Darbyshire’s parents to help support their daughter Emily, and others like her, who have been affected by meningitis.

Emily was a member of Horsham Life Saving Club and as a result of contracting meningitis encephalitis and septicaemia in 2006 was left severely disabled.

For Emily to live independently she needs to be able to have funds available to purchase the equipment needed to support her.

There have been numerous charities that have helped her since her illness and Emily’s parents hope that as the Trust grows they will be able to make donations to these over the coming years.

Horsham Life Saving Club ‘Swimarathon’ Relay Team clocked up 84 lengths in their allocated 1 hour, and to make it more difficult each member towed, as if ‘rescuing’, another team member.

All club members were involved in seeking sponsors and Emily was delighted to meet them all to say ‘thank you’ and whilst at The Pavilions Club Night she presented some of the members with recently taken exam awards.

New members are always welcome and recent financial support from West Sussex County Council, and Saxon Weald has enabled the club to subsidise the costs of taking a course.
