Horsham Lions serve tea and entertainment for the elderly

Horsham Lions Club lived up to their motto ‘We Serve’ on Saturday, June 15, when they served tea and provided entertainment to the elderly residents of Horsham.

Following the success of the Jubilee Tea Party last year, it was decided to hold an annual Summer Tea Party for those who find it difficult to get out and about and join in social activities.

Lion president John Williams welcomed everyone to the party which was held at the Barn in the Causeway transformed for the afternoon by summery festoons in pink and green and giant balloons on each table.

Four mini buses provided transport for those unable to come independently and over 70 pensioners had a lovely afternoon , with a sumptuous tea, entertainment being provided by the Horsham Accordion Band. Song sheets were provided and everyone sang gustily all the old favourites like Sussex by the Sea and ending with Land of Hope and Glory.

Lion Chris Osborne made 100 cup cakes which made an impressive pyramid display and each guest was given one to take home.

Horsham Lions were delighted by the response and enthusiasm of their guests and look forward to next year’s party.
