Horsham Oxfam’s golf fundraiser for Nepal

Golfers and sponsors helped to raise more than £1,000 for the Nepal earthquake appeal at Horsham Oxfam Golf Day last month, at Mannings Heath Golf Club. Thanks to all those who played and to those who supplied raffle prizes (including Mannings Heath Golf Club, The Dog and Bacon Inn and Heyland and Whittle) and to those who contributed in other ways.

It was the 21st year of the Oxfam Golf Day and organisers were pleased to welcome several new challengers for the prizes for the longest drive and nearest the pin, as well as for overall winners. Even better – they promised to come back next year and try again! It will be great to see them and, we hope, other new faces – as well as people who have enjoyed the event for many years (some for the full 21 years). Details of next year’s event will be advertised in the Horsham Oxfam Shop in the Carfax but if you would like to register interest now, email [email protected] . You do not have to be a Mannings Heath member to join in.

The Nepal earthquake in April left 2.8 million people homeless or in need of help to avoid disease spreading. So far, Oxfam has helped nearly 330,000 – with chlorinated water, latrines, shelter or rice seeds so that they could get crops growing again as soon as possible.

Oxfam was working in Nepal before the disaster – training local volunteers who were, within a few hours of the earthquake, helping to rescue survivors, give first aid, build latrines and mend water pipes. Their work, with support from Oxfam, will continue in helping people recover and restore their lives – helped by this contribution from the Horsham Oxfam Golf Day. Thank you very much to the Horsham Oxfam golfers and supporters!
