Horsham school enjoys visit from Spanish students

In June, Collyer’s and Horsham were delighted to welcome a group of Spanish students and teachers, who were visiting the college of as part of an educational student exchange programme.

The students attend top Spanish school Instituto Cristobal Lozano in the beautiful town of Hellin, close to Alicante on the east coast of Spain.

The group started its week in the UK with a tour of Horsham, a trip to Greenwich and a visit to see the sights and sounds of London.

Margarita Mortimer, Subject Leader for Spanish at Collyer’s, was thrilled: “The Collyer’s students and their families have been very accommodating and we are extremely grateful to them; we are always pleased to welcome our Spanish exchange students because it’s such a good opportunity for them to experience life in England as well as practise their language skills. Our students here in England have loved having them to stay!”

Elvira Cantos, accompanying teacher for the Spanish students, added: “This fabulous experience provides a better understanding of customs, history and culture, so it is a good way to elaborate a modern European citizenship.”

The students continued their educational week with visits to the Horsham Museum, Brighton and spent time with local students and their families in Horsham.

Collyer’s Vice Principal, Steve Nicholls, said: “We are delighted to welcome our visitors, they are a credit to their school, Hellin and Spain! The exchange is an incredibly important part of learning about language and culture for the Collyer’s and Instituto Cristobal Lozano students and I’m very happy that everyone has thoroughly enjoyed the visit.”

In addition to trips and visits, the students also spent valuable time attending lessons with her English hosts in a variety of subjects and took part in some busy and entertaining classroom workshops, with a particular focus on language and culture.

Collyer’s Assistant Principal, Melanie Russell said: “This is a great learning opportunity and I’d like to offer huge thanks to Margarita and all of the teachers for making this wonderful experience possible for these young people.”

Margarita Mortimer added: “It was fantastic to see these students work so well together. The exchange trips this year have been massively successful and even the notorious English weather has been on our side!
