Hospital plan cheer

I HAVE read that the plans to rebuild Littlehampton Community Hospital are back on the drawing board (Gazette, August 9).

This is good news, and let us hope this time that it is successful.

It should be built on the site of the old hospital in Fitzalan Road, which has everything going for it:

1/ located in a densely populated area of Littlehampton;

2/ less than 10 minutes’ walk from the Anchor Springs bus terminal;

3/ next to a bus route in Church Street, and the town bus goes down Fitzalan Road every hour.

The possibility that an alternative site close to the North Littlehampton development could be considered does not make sense. It is less populated than the town area and the only public transport is two buses to Arundel.

Could it be that land is cheaper in North Littlehampton and the valuable Fitzalan Road site could be sold to a developer?

When the decision is made as to where the hospital will be built, special attention should be given to which site will be easily accessed by the public, who rely on public transport, and that site has to be Fitzalan Road.
