How arrogant

RESPONDING to readers' letters concerning the World's Longest Bench proposed for Littlehampton seafront (Gazette, July 23), I, too, would like to give an opinion on this structure, which, we are told, will bring fame and fortune to the town, and which will put Littlehampton firmly on the map.

It may seem a little unkind, but I agree with Alan Everson, who in his letter referred to the East Beach Caf as a "rust bucket" (and to me an eyesore).

As for the bench, I would like to ask whether the idea has received the consent of the people of Littlehampton, or has it always been seen as a fait accompli, despite what people think?

Maybe I've missed something and people's views have been taken into consideration, in which case I apologise.

But, I ask: the world's longest, and Littlehampton's claim to fame?

What an arrogant assumption!

Lastly, I refer to R. E. Barker's comments, referring to those who don't support the scheme as making ill-mannered and ungrateful comments. Come on, Mr Barker, we're all entitled to our view, and although these might offend you, this is what we call democracy.
