How long can postboxes stay?

In Ion Castro’s interesting set of old photos of Queens Road, it is intriguing to note that one particular ‘item’ is still as it was all those years ago - the postbox.

Yet, with the inexorable rise of the internet (I seldom use post these days), I wonder for how much longer postboxes will remain in place. Even now I gather that many rural ones are being removed.
