The listed public shelters on the seafront are rapidly falling into disrepair. It seems such a shame and a bad advert for our town. The upkeep would lift our image and show we care and have pride in our heritage, plus enhance the comfort of residents and visitors alike.

We have philanthropic local glaziers who might be approached “to help and advise”.

Also note glass panels still missing on the pier upper deck, but that’s not in the public remit.

We have “guerilla” decorators who have been repainting railings and church gates in and around the Croft Road area.

We have “guerilla” gardeners planting open spaces and brightening our days.

We have talented carpenters producing beautiful benches seen around the town.

Let’s start with the comparatively small but solvable problems and work our way up from there.

The modern bus shelter near Muriel Matters House is currently chucking out both noise and heat, no doubt using lots of electricity. Since the recent moving adverts have been to tell us how nice it is to see us, we could turn off the changing image aspect and save a few bob on the energy bill, which could go towards the cost of saving the listed shelters and, coincidentally, the planet.

How about it?
