I don’t agree with farewell funds

RE your item on page 7 of this week’s Battle Observer dated 21/6/13 regarding Battle’s funding for clerk’s leaving do.

I find it astonishing that rate payers have to subsidise a council employee’s leaving do, to the amount of £1,200, let alone for only 13 years service.

The majority of people retiring or leaving their occupations, usually after 30 or 40 years service, finance their food and drink out of their own pocket for their farewell do.

When I retired 32 years ago after serving in the RAF regiment and police service for 30 years, I did not get any assistance from any council to finance my farewell do.
