I’m starting the Pragmatic Party

I’M considering starting the Pragmatic Party.

It’s not left wing or right wing, it’s just what the word means.

My manifesto, to come into force within days of winning an election, would include stopping the burning of cigarettes seized at our borders.

I would also recycle items seized by police, such as cars for scrapping, and auction them off at reduced rates.

I would have drop shops throughout the country to stop the travesty of people missing a day’s pay waiting for a parcel.

I would not charge for this service, but just ask for a reasonable donation according to conscience.

This money would be ring-fenced for our youth.

I would use money from the Deposit Protection Scheme to help Channel 4’s Property Scandal campaign, highlighting housing problems and would introduce a new system where people don’t have to wait for affordable housing.

I would introduce an affordable mortgage scheme which takes the banks out of the game, and remove interest rate mortgages, but align them with the housing allowance rate.

This would offer housing security – if you lost your job, you would not lose your home.

I would decriminalise cannabis, to stop the war on drugs that has failed.

This would take the power away from drug dealers and allow the money that goes into their pockets to go to the public purse.

This, in turn, would make the police’s job easier. Benefits should not be paid to drug dealers to top up their income.

It was said in the House of Commons last week that the only way to balance the books is to either cut the public sector or raise taxes. I say that is baloney.

Eventually, I would reduce the 50p tax rate to inspire entrepreneurs.
