In plain sight

THE lack of a footpath adjoining Bumbles Cottage in Broadmark Lane, Rustington, has been a matter of public concern for many years, prompting Rustington Parish Council, Rustington Residents’ Association and many private residents to request the county council to make this provision.

The county council has accepted that the proposal is feasible, but cannot be progressed, as it would cause inadequate visibility sight lines at the junction of Vernon Close and Broadmark Lane.

The new application for flats at that junction (as stated in the March 21 Gazette) retains the existing inadequate sight line and thus perpetuates the difficulty.

I have, therefore, requested Arun District Council’s planning department to liaise with the county council to ensure that its requirements are protected as, if the plans are approved, as submitted, any future provision of this footpath will not be possible.
