‘Inspirational’ talk as Collyer’s students rewarded

Successful level 2 BTEC students enjoyed their graduation at Collyer’s this week.

Students studying level 2 courses in art and design, child care and education, business, IT and sport were rewarded after another outstanding year.

Students also received the coveted Level 2 Sixth Form Baccalaureate (SFBac), an additional award in recognition of the overall breadth of study and skills that they have attained while at Collyer’s.

Special guest speaker, Gill Buchanan (manager of the Swan Walk Shopping Centre) gave an inspirational talk to the students.

She said: “Well done to you all, I’m sure your parents and teachers must be very proud of your achievements.

“You should also be extremely proud of your transferable skills and build upon them. In whatever you decide to do, I wish you all well.”

Gill then awarded special ‘Player of the Year’ prizes to students from each of the subject areas.

The art and design award went to Natasha Massie; child care and education was won by Jess Oakley, Chaelah Janse Van Vuure walked away with the business prize and the top student in IT was awarded to Giles Rhind. Ben Wilson won the award for Sport.

The graduation was attended by students, teachers and representatives from the local community, including Lisa Bolton and Sally Anne Kasey from the Headstart Day Nursery.

Collyer’s Principal Dr Jackie Johnston said: “Congratulations to these students on achieving their level 2 qualifications and SFBac and thank-you to their teachers for all their hard work over a busy year. We also owe huge thanks to Gill Buchanan for her kind words and support of the graduation today”.
