Instructors plea

Littlehampton has a thriving Sea Scout Group – 5th Littlehampton – with excellent headquarters and grounds in Lineside Way.

We have a fine selection of kayaks, dinghies, Canadian canoes, power boats and pulling boats, all well-maintained and in great condition and ready to use. What we lack are enough water activities instructors to give all our young leaders as much experience on the water as they deserve.

We are urgently looking for more instructors to give our young members training in various water activities. The Scout Association issues its own water activities permits. What is usually needed is an appropriate qualification from organisations such as the BCU or RYA and the ability to keep young people safe on the water. Many sailing and canoeing clubs have blanket approval from the Scout Association to provide instruction. We may have funds available to provide any extra training you might require.

We are also anxious to recruit leaders and assistants in other areas – we need your help, even if you are not into water activities. We have boys and girls from six years upwards who participate in many different and exciting activities. The more adult leaders we have, the better the Scouting experience that we can offer to our children.

Volunteering in Scouting is great fun and very satisfying and completely flexible. Even if you are able to help only occasionally, we will fit your Scouting activities around all your other professional and personal commitments.

Please contact me if you can help in any way. You are most welcome to visit our headquarters to see what we offer the children.
