Interest in scouting on the rise in Southwater

This new section within the Scout group has been running since February with an increasing number of young people looking for the first taste of adventure that Scouting offers.

Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Scouting family. Their activities are based around fun and friendship.

Their programme involves plenty of outdoor activities, playing games, investigating nature, going out on visits and learning how to be safe.

Eight year-old Beaver Scout, Ella said, “I really like coming, we lots of play games and you might not know everyone when you start but you make friends, I can’t wait to go on camps and do even more interesting things”.

The new colony became a reality for these young people when parents of Scouts already involved in another section stepped forward to volunteer after realising that youngsters were missing out on the opportunity to join the Scouting adventure and learn new skills.

Mike Lowis, one of the 100,000 adult volunteer Leaders in Scouting across the UK said, “It’s great to see so many young people joining our new Beaver Colony. Scouting is an important part of a local community and encourages young people to get out and experience the fun of the great outdoors”.

Mark Guy, Regional Development Officer for West Sussex, who is searching for more adults to support Scouting locally said: “We would love for more adults to join us so that more young people can enjoy the adventure of Scouting. We provide full training and support to help them fit volunteering around their busy schedules.

Our adults get as much out of Scouting as the young people!
