It is a bitter wind without a warm shelter

I HAD heard of all the talk, about what has happened to the seaside promenade in Littlehampton.

I have lived in Littlehampton for 35 years and as my husband pushed me along in my wheelchair, along the Prom, I was shocked.

"What have they done?" I wailed. "Where are all the shelters?" – it was a bitterly cold May Day bank holiday.

Walking (or in my case, being pushed) along the Prom, you could hear people talking about the shelters being torn down, all for the sake of some whim.

Perhaps whoever's clever idea this was could come and explain to me and my family why you've had to ruin, in everybody else's eye, a conception of how a seaside town should look like.

I, for one, will not be going along the Prom again.

Or even trying out that new longest bench monstrosity!
