Japanese flower arrangement wins autumn Show

Mana Otashiro, a pupil at the Rikkyo School, Rudgwick, won first prize with her beautiful floral arrangement at the Ellens Green & Rudgwick Gardening Association held on Saturday 14th September.

Mana and three of her fellow pupils entered their exhibits in the ‘Flowers in a candlestick’ class and dazzled the judges and visitors alike with their choice of striking colours and shapes.

Mike Clarke, EG&RGA Chairman commented: “We were thT-rilled that the Rikkyo girls took part in the show. They are incredibly talented and we look forward to welcoming them to our next show in the spring.”

The extremes of weather that all growers and gardeners have encountered this year did not deter exhibitors. There was a wide range of first class fruit and vegetables on display as well as delicious home fare and horticulture.

The Murphy Cup for most points in Fruit and Vegetable Classes - Mr Dave Ockenden

The William Port Memorial Cup for best Exhibit of Apples - Mrs Alison Saunders

Jim Hale Trophy for best vegetable in the show - Mr Dave Ockenden

Pratt Barlow Cup for most points in Horticulture classes won jointly - Mrs Brenda Westbrook and Mrs Anne Nuttall

The Bob Sutton Plate for best pot plant - Mrs Anne Nuttall
