Lesson in the ‘three Ps’ for William Penn

Southern Water engineer Simon Parker visited the school to talk about the company’s Pain in the Drain campaign.

He told pupils in Year Three and Four that flushing wet wipes down the toilet and pouring cooking fat down the sink contributes to three-quarters of all sewer blockages, which can result in homes and gardens flooding.

He also gave out fat funnels to be used to transfer used fat and oil into plastic bottles to be put in the bin or recycled.

Teacher Joanne Beer said: “Our pupils take their environmental responsibilities seriously so were really interested to hear these messages. I’m sure everyone will put them into practice at home.”

The school is involved in several environmental initiatives, including recycling.
