Let's keep the cinema

CONCERNING plans to redevelop the former cinema in Western Road, how could anyone think of destroying such a lovely building? Many years back I worked there as an usherette when it was the Curzon, and later when it took on the bingo. It's a disgrace. What do we need a new building for, smack bang in the middle of our main street? More luxury flats sitting empty. What an eyesore. And where are 14 or more cars going to park with all the restrictions in Western Road? I run a small business, Tiddy's Tackle, just up from the cinema, so I see this lovely building every day. It holds so many memories for me, as I'm sure it does for others. At mine, and also my daughter's shop, The Wobbly Rabbit, in Western Road we have many customers from out of town, for instance, from Eastbourne. They come to Bexhill to shop because of the small, independent family-run businesses. Let's keep it like that.

I wish the council would see through our eyes - the traders, the public - what they are doing to Bexhill. If this scheme goes ahead it will be more of our history lost, so let’s keep the cinema so our memories go on. I still see that lovely building every day and it’s too good to lose.
