But these efforts are pointless without long-term thinking and politics.

What proposed drastic revisions to the local plan for Arun proves is the bankruptcy of short-termism.

Our former subsistence economy dictated to society, but today it is imperative that society controls a post-industrial economy.

And do so from grass roots society upwards.

Population and multiple environmental problems have reached a tipping point, and 19th Century politics do not fit the 21st Century.

The population of this country needs to be stabilised and reduced, with the economy serving the population we have.

The idea that we can continue building new villages in profusion, year after year, is barely credible.

In any case our attitude to migrants is hypocritical.

Some of them are ‘welcomed’ here only where they survive the journey and do not get kidnapped or drowned on the way.
