LETTER: Calais farce

I saw instantly that the government in opposition would quickly attempt to undervalue the remarks made by our Prime Minister, about the would-be immigrants creating problems at Calais.

‘Swarm’, as defined in my Oxford dictionary, indicates, yes, ants and bees, but predominantly: 1 – Move somewhere in large numbers; 2 – Be Crowded; 3 – Overrun; 4 – Climb rapidly; 5 – Gripping with hands and feet; 6 – Form a swarm.

There is no doubt that these migrants are desperate and I feel for them, but the PM has not got exaggerated concerns while struggling to cope with genuine migrants escaping brutality in their home country and not seeking asylum in the first country they reach.

The Calais affair is a disgraceful farce since striking French workers and migrant activity created mayhem in the port and reflects badly on the French government.
