LETTER: Consultant fees

Where as I would concur with councillor Dendle’s opinion regarding his belief that “councillors should only represent one authority”, I believe his views about consultant involvement in local development matters to be questionable.

The current debate concerning the district’s policy over the economic funding of its expansive future leisure centre becomes all the more complex.

Perhaps it would become less of a challenge if the comprehensive provision of an integral swimming pool were omitted from the equation.

A standalone refurbishment on the present Littlehampton site, as clearly advocated by its local users, should not be ignored.

Furthermore, a smaller site for the residual facilities, located elsewhere in the district, would make better sense.

It would also enable simpler accommodation to be found for the resultant levels of parking and adjacent highway capacity needed.

It is hard to understand the reasoning behind the council’s policy towards savings made by redundancies and reductions in local employment.

At the same time we are told the allocation of funds for “outside“ agencies to evaluate development strategies is approved.

No doubt the next budget re-allocations will have to provide for local consultation, analysis and implementation.

parish of Lyminster & Crossbush
