LETTER: Debasing of the Queen’s English

I thought, perhaps, that a little light relief from housing and politics would be in order and so here is my contribution.

The loss of the word ‘to’ in broadcasting, general journalism and everyday conversation, is anathema to me and I certainly do not appreciate its replacement by ‘ter’ which is even used by some newsreaders (Alvar Liddel must be turning in his grave!).

Also I deplore the further vitiation of the Queen’s English by the ever increasing use of ‘try and’ instead of ‘try ter’ – sorry! ‘try to’.

I hope that I have provided some light relief from the more serious letters today!
