LETTER: Dismay over a lost apostrophe

Those coming off the Horsham bypass and approaching the town on the Warnham Road are currently confronted by a large sign (provided by Horsham District Council) headed ‘Whats on... in Horsham?’ - which then advises folk on how they can find out what is indeed going on in the town.

Whilst other towns and cities, notably Cambridge, have decided to omit the required and grammatically correct apostrophe from their road signs, I don’t see why Horsham has to follow this regrettable trend. I suppose we should be grateful for the question mark, but could we please, in future, indicate how to find out ‘What’s on’ in the correct way so that pedantic old chaps like me won’t be dismayed.
