LETTER: Donations helped the vulnerable

This year’s Surviving Winter campaign, run by Sussex Community Foundation, has ended with an amazing £24,000 raised to help those in Sussex struggling to pay to heat their homes. In large part, the money has been donated by people who felt that they didn’t need their annual Winter Fuel Payment and wanted to give to help those less fortunate than themselves.

We want to say a hearty thank you to all those Sussex people who heeded our call for donations.

The total is about £6,000 less than last year but we think that is because the public was pretty focused on giving to flood appeals – and it wasn’t a very cold winter! However, the grants that have been given out throughout our partners at Age UK and Citizens Advice Bureaux across the county have made a huge difference to the older and vulnerable people who have received them.
