LETTER: Double disruption in an emergency

With reference to the Robert Jolly letter of January 8, I completely agree with Mr Jolly’s comment about the amazing job the captain did at landing the plane safely and without any casualties BUT not his quote ‘If Gatwick had a second runway there would probably not have been any disruption’.

Does Mr Jolly really think that when a plane is making an emergency landing, which could end in a disaster, they would still carry on letting other planes take off from another runway that is running parallel?

Nice idea Mr Jolly but one that needs more thought! You would have had two runways at a standstill so double the disruption and double the chance of it happening again, due to the amount of planes using the airport!
