LETTER: Highlights from special meeting

One was when Cllr Philip Circus, a strong supporter of the HDPF siting 2,750 houses in North Horsham, breaking the A264 boundary that has marked the northern edge of Horsham for over 30 years, stood up to deny assertions that HDC procedures were undemocratic or flawed.

Cllr Circus blustered for a while before complaining about press coverage week after week (which for a local politician complaining about the press is a bit like campaigning about the weather).

To those of us who have been contributing to your columns about the approach adopted by senior cabinet members of Horsham District Council – this was the first public admission by a councillor that we were getting through!

The other champagne moment for me was when Cllr Jonathan Dancer opened by saying, ‘I wasn’t sure I would speak today, but I was spurred on by those who would have liked to prevent me doing so. By the fact that certain individuals were seeking to manipulate me, to put words in my mouth. I was told the plan had to go through and that given my intention to vote against it rather than abstain combined with my unswerving desire to actually listen to my 5,000 electors, the smart thing to do would be to stay away this evening. In that way, I could both allow the plan throughand protect my image with the public who so hate this plan.They miscalculate my intentions, they badly mistake my character.’

Cllr Dancer (just like Cllr Connor Relleen) is evidently made of tougher stuff than proponents in the cabinet would ever imagine.
