LETTER: House-building rate inadequate

I appreciate that there are always problems and issues related to creating a Local Plan '“ not least of which is what are the technical aspects of a development.

I was surprised to discover that Adur Council has not included New Salts Farm in the proposed Local Plan – the proposals submitted by Hyde Housing were quite detailed and included solutions to overcome flood risk, drainage, and highways issues.

I went to the presentation last year and thought that the plans seemed sensible – the proposed homes are needed in this area.

Not only that, but Land Registry figures show a total of 256 new properties built in the BN15 postcode since 1995. That’s just over 12 a year on average – woefully inadequate. It breaks down to 130 apartments and 126 houses – absolutely shocking in 21 years.

As an estate agent in Lancing, I find that demand for property is constantly strong, forever greater than supply and prices are going through the roof.

I really don’t think that Adur council can afford to miss the opportunity to build theses houses and needs to re-visit the Local Plan to amend it to include New Salts Farm.
