LETTER: Leave the EU

Now our car restoration industry is under attack.

Until recently the DVLA have assigned age related numbers to restored and rebuilt old cars.

Owing to pressure from the EU, they have moved the “goal posts”.

The form to apply for an age related number now states: “Your vehicle won’t get an age related number if it contains new or replica parts.”

As most old car manufacturers no longer exist, it is impossible to restore a car without using replica parts, let alone new ones.

It would be given a “Q” prefix number and would have to pass the type approval tests for modern cars.

This would mean modifying them so that they would no longer be to original specification and part of our motoring heritage will be lost.

Firms that produce these parts, especially coach builders, will lose business and people will no longer be able to enjoy driving old cars that they have restored themselves.

The EU has banned chrome plating from 2017.

Also in that year petrol will contain 10 per cent ethanol.

This attacks the fuel system of older cars and quite a lot of the modern ones too.

No doubt our kit car industry will be attacked next as we seem to be the only EU country that still has one.

It is absolutely essential that we leave the EU if we are to avoid becoming like a communist country with all of our freedoms destroyed.
