LETTER: Local plans

There is a ‘consultation’ today (July 27), that Mulgrave Estates are arranging, for proposals for housing north of the A259 between the Ford and Yapton access roads.

In addition there is apparently another proposal for 1,000 houses from the west bank up to Climping (by LEGA).

Also Ford, in their local plan, have included 600 plus homes on Ford Airfield, which would be the northern Climping boundary.

The Local Plan issue is also a grey area.

I am given to understand the overall Arun plan has been rejected as not enough housing was included.

Ford have included housing to stop any more industrial development on the airfield.

The Climping plan, which wishes to preserve the rural nature of the area, is under consultation and not yet approved.

From reports in the Gazette I understand a developer is appealing against a rejected proposal under Yapton’s local plan – it will be interesting to see how that turns out!

In Climping we are already suffering safety and congestion issues on the local roads with the Grundon waste development at Ford.

The A259 cannot cope at peak times as we all know.

There are two Climping junctions with the A259 struggling to cope, with also a dangerous easterly exit from Horsemere Green Lane onto the Ford road.

Any Arundel bypass that might help (but also encourage further development) seems a long way off.

Whenever there is a planning application the affect on roads is analysed but, if all proposals go ahead, the total effect seems to get lost.

As none of these are at the planning stage it would be hoped that the Gazette will monitor and report on what is happening overall so these developments are not thought of in isolation.

Arun can and should be held to account for ensuring the local views and plans are upheld and, if necessary, the required changes to the local infrastructure and transport links are a condition of development if any of these proposals are finally given permission.
