LETTER: Look at all aspects of Gatwick growth

Despite Dr Smith’s allegations, I do not think I have actually said I positively support a second runway at Gatwick.
What's on.What's on.
What's on.

What I have said is that I do not support the proposals for a third runway at Heathrow, as it would be of limited use operationally.

If we were to expand Heathrow properly, it would need two extra full length runways and I think the environmental problems alone would preclude this option.

I also put forward the view that a new ‘Boris Island’ London Airport would be fabulously expensive; very environmentally unacceptable; and if built, would mean the closure of Heathrow and probably Gatwick as well.

What I have said, is that when we consider any expansion of Gatwick, we should look at all aspects of any proposals before reaching a decision.

We should not just accept the strident and selective views of single issue groups and individuals who are working towards some other agenda and demand we do what they say.
