LETTER: Loss of festival is unforgivable

Sad, sad, sad, as a lifetime lover and player of cricket and supporter of Sussex CC to lose the Horsham cricket week is unforgivable, such a wonderful ground, popular with the players, well supported by the public who frankly deserve to be able to watch County Cricket without having to travel to Hove with all the attendant problems of parking etc.

In the old days the Sussex played all over the county, Eastbourne, Worthing, Hastings, Arundel, and Horsham, allowing their local supporters the luxury of a good day out in their own back yards.

I appreciate that with the large expenditure incurred at Hove the club wish to play at home as much as possible, but maybe they would get more support if they thought of the watching public for a change.

Reading the report in the County Times it is not totally clear who is to blame, it seems that even after a bad year last year because of the weather, the county still received some income and presumably because of this weather would not have fared much better had they been at Hove.

What is happening to HDC? I know times are hard financially but we all used to be proud of our market town, we had the best of everything, theatre, sports centres, swimming pool, playgrounds, nature reserves and green spaces in which to walk, in fact everything that made Horsham one of the most desirable places to live in the country.

OK, the Government do not treat Horsham very fairly but do we really have to cut expenditure on all these facilities that make living so pleasurable.

Come on HDC, we always gave a grant to help facilitate cricket week perhaps if you showed a bit more enthusiasm local business might do the same.
