LETTER: Massive crowd for parade of Ferraris

Driving in the Ferrari convoy into Horsham it was pretty exciting to see so many people lining the route but nothing quite prepared us for the size of the crowds waiting in the Carfax, it was truly amazing.

Piazza Italia started eight years ago with just 12 Ferraris driving down East Street and parking in Market Square on Good Friday and then another 12 Ferraris doing the same on Easter Saturday. The event was watched by a few hundred spectators.

The event has grown steadily over the past eight years until Easter this year which was without question the largest so far with over one hundred Ferraris taking part and the crowds the largest I have ever seen.

Apart from bringing people into ‘our town’ we always try to put something back as well and this year we were raising money for Chestnut Tree House during the Piazza Italia dinner we held at South Lodge Hotel on Thursday evening.

On behalf of all of our members who took part in Friday’s event I would like to thank everybody involved in making it happen, Garry Mortimer-Cook and his team at Horsham District Council, Balfour Beatty, Sussex Police, the Ferrari marshals, Meridien Modena and all of the other companies and sponsors involved but most of all the people of Horsham and all of the other people who travelled far and wide to visit Horsham for Piazza Italia.

From the reaction we have, everybody taking part and spectating had a great time and at the same time made Horsham simply the place to be this Easter.
