LETTER: Money making scheme by WSCC

On receiving a letter/map from West Sussex County Council it became clear a new parking zone was being proposed due to ‘public’ concern with regards commuters parking, causing problems for residents. This area I have lived in for 17 years and in this time I’ve never seen any commuters park on street in the area (top of Oakhill) residents only.

A proposed ‘starting’ charge for a permit of £40 per annum and £70 per annum for a second permit won’t even ensure residents will be able to park outside their house!

For WSCC to say there’s a problem, yes there is one ‘they’ are creating. The ‘permit’ parking would include Monday to Friday and Saturday, with no commuters parking here on a weekday let alone a Saturday proves this is a ‘money making’ scheme by WSCC!

I would have to pay £40 (‘starting charge’) to park outside my house on Saturdays! For all residents in this area who think £40 or £70 (for second permit) is not much stop and think as this charge will treble within two to three years! Plus visitor permits at extra charge.

WSCC say ‘funds’ raised by permits and penalty notices will be used to employ enforcement! So we residents will be creating employment at our own cost and to line the pockets of West Sussex County Council who will be quids in!

WSCC you might think you’ve pulled the wool over some residents eyes with your ‘money making scheme’ - but not this Horsham resident!
