LETTER: More listening, less criticising

Cllr Adrian M. Lee (Denne) in a letter to this newspaper last month (5.11.15, p34), sought to publicly chastise Cllr Connor Relleen (Con, Horsham Park) for speaking out over the fact that the Cabinet's Advisory Groups were meeting in secret.

Cllr Lee also sought delight in telling the pubic in his letter how he sits on no fewer that nine Cabinet Advisory Groups. He also denied the existence of a ‘cabinet cabal’. Despite Cllr Lee only being elected for the first time in May one wonders quite what he can advise the Cabinet about but since he voted for building in the Strategic Gap in North Horsham I think we know the answer to that.

I submitted a Freedom of Information request (5.11.15) seeking disclosure of Cllr Lee’s attendance on all the Advisory Groups since May 2015.

Well it doesn’t make for good reading. Cllr Lee has missed four different Cabinet Advisory Group meetings already. The council replied ‘The information we have [on Cllr Lee’s attendance] is as follows: Museum AG – 25/6/15: no record of attendees; Sport & Leisure AG – 9/7/15: present; Arts, Heritage & Leisure AG – 30/7/15: no record of attendees; Planning Policy AG – 2/9/15: no record of attendees; Business Transformation AG – 10/9/15: not present; Health & Wellbeing AG – 10/9/15: not present; Community Safety AG – 29/9/15: not present; Sport & Leisure AG – 1/10/15: not present; Horsham Burials AG – 7/10/15: present; Planning Policy AG – 12/10/15: present; Economic Development AG - has not met yet.’

I then looked at Cllr Lee’s attendance of the Licensing Committee. He didn’t go to meetings of Licensing Committee on 11.6.15, 15.7.15 or 24.11.15 – which seems to have been all of the three licensing committee meetings that have taken place since he was elected in May.

Cllr Lee missed full council on 9.9.15 and Planning North Committee on 2.6.15 and 6.10.15.

With a mixed record of attendance Cllr Adrian M. Lee should go to more meetings and do more listening before writing to this paper to criticise Cllr Relleen and Cllr David Skipp who stand up for democracy.
