LETTER: No ‘delighted’ residents in photo

Your piece ‘Major £5m station upgrade officially unveiled’ (WSCT 19.06.14) was accompanied by a grinning Cllr Jim Rae (Holbrook East) cutting the red ribbon.

‘Oh!’ I thought, he must be surrounded by a group of residents whom as he said ‘will enjoy this for years to come!’

But no – aside from Cllr Helena Croft (Roffey North) peeping out from behind his left shoulder – they were employees of Southern and Network Rail.

Was Cllr Rae afraid of being surrounded by residents who might well not want to smile or perhaps concerned he is so unpopular – no-one would turn up for his photo shoot, so ‘rent a crowd’ came instead?

Cllr Raw said nothing about how his vote on April 30 will mean residents will have to face additional parking in roads all around Littlehaven and Network Rail will not build the station he voted for in the proposed development of north of the A264.

And then you have a quote from Cllr Helen Croft who also voted for this flawed plan foisting chaos and infrastructure overload on her Roffey constituents.

She was ‘delighted to see the high quality upgrade that has been achieved at Littlehaven Station’. But no extra parking as residents and commuters will discover – has she not thought of that either?
