LETTER: Parish councillors taking the lead to fight housing plan

North Horsham Parish Council (NHPC) has voted to ring fence funds for a Judicial Review of Councillor Vickers’ housing plan to build nearly 3,000 houses in the Strategic Gap.

Parish councillors have taken the lead and hopefully other parish councils, such as Rusper, will support them with funding to lead the fight against this flawed housing plan and the switch that was made in May 2013 from the Strategic Site of Southwater to the Strategic Gap.

On this newspaper’s website one response to this news is: “So much for the so-called ‘Localism Act’ when a parish council is forced to seek a Judicial Review in order to stop a destructive and severely flawed development being dumped where it is neither wanted OR needed in that parish. This is an ideal opportunity for the new Horsham MP Mr Quin to stand up for his constituents. This matter MUST be raised in the House of Commons by him as soon as possible.”

There have been several letters in this paper about our new MP, Mr Quin. He shows no interest to use the space that you give him each week on this burning issue unlike the active involvement of MPs from the neighbouring constituencies of Arundel and South Downs and Mid Sussex.

Both those MPs addressed the Inspector directly at the Horsham public inquiry and raised the matter in Parliament in a debate. Why didn’t Mr Quin, upon his election, go to the resumed public inquiry in July this year and speak to the Inspector like Sir Nicholas Soames and Nick Herbert did? Mr Quin simply avoids the issue.

The role of an MP is to take his constituents’ grievances to Parliament and in this case it does look like the Localism Act is being flouted, doesn’t it?
