LETTER: Private meetings are total disgrace

Sheila White’s letter in your paper (20.5.15) expressed what a lot of us are thinking when we read the piece ‘Private meetings on North Horsham’ (14.5.15, p3).

We knew nothing about any of this and once again commend your paper for the quality of its investigative journalism.

The election changed nothing it would appear. The same people - Cllrs Dawe, Vickers and Donnelly - are back in force. The autocratic management style is carrying on and it would appear that the new intake of councillors (in whom many of us had such hopes) are allowing it all to carry on as before.

‘The meetings are in private and no formal minutes will be made available’. That of course is a ruse to make it pointless for residents to put in Freedom of Information requests – the council simply states that no minutes are kept.

‘The Reference Group is a proactive opportunity for the council and the developer to engage with the local community groups and the first meeting was to discuss how this would best be achieved and for the developer to update the community representatives...’

Have we all missed something?

When did the council formally receive a proposal from Liberty to develop the land north of the A264?

When did it go through the planning procedures of the council? Who are these community representatives and how were they chosen?

Where are the reports from them to the public about what is going on? Are they gagged too?

It is a total disgrace.

It could all be taking place in the old Eastern Europe behind the Iron Curtain.

One wonders just what is the relationship between the council and this American property company. What has been agreed – quietly?

Like everything else it will one day come out into the open – but if the public don’t wake up to what is happening before their eyes it will be too late.
