LETTER: Remove old loos

May I add my support to Sara Rodger’s plea that the old public lavatory block in Mill Road, Arundel, should be removed?

The building is utilitarian, unattractive and redundant – the facilities it contained having been replaced.

The demolition of the building would enable the creation of a pleasant urban space and the further conservation and interpretation of the important ruins of a range of the 14th-century Blackfriars which is currently concealed.

The replacement of the lavatory block presents a great opportunity to recognize the importance of the Blackfriars in the religious and social history of Arundel.

It would be a great shame if this opportunity were to be let slip and an unattractive 20th-century building, now no longer required for the purpose for which it was provided, allowed to remain on such a sensitive site.
