LETTER: Ridiculously high council tax bill

I refer to your article on page four of the September 24 issue regarding the council seeking a social media officer at a salary of more than £38,000, plus attractive benefits.

Am I the only one appalled at this complete lack of regard for our hard-earned money used to pay the council tax?

I’m keen to understand what the objective of the role is and why it commands such a high wage, plus the final salary pension scheme and attractive benefits?

I was taken on as a sales and marketing graduate, over ten years ago, in a Fortune 500 company and this job was a role within that role.

I realise that social media has developed in this time, but not to an extent that a junior graduate couldn’t be employed to develop social media within a wider marketing or communications role.

I have the feeling that this is an example of people wasting other people’s money and it frustrates me that I see the ridiculously high council tax bill and then open up the newspaper to this. At least there will now be someone for me to tweet my annoyance to and I am sure that they will have ample time to respond.
