LETTER: Second thoughts over North Horsham?

By the time this letter is published planning supremo Cllr Vickers and her leader, Cllr Dawe, may well have received the final report from the Inspector Mr Salter before he retires.

His parting gift to Horsham – we shall remember him and the legacy he has left. Maybe he will be called back to explain to a Judge how he reached some of his decisions.

Meanwhile, Mr Blevins, MD of Liberty, an American property developer, will have been waiting anxiously in the wings - pen poised to sign off the Liberty planning application for, at the moment, 2,750 houses on green fields north of the A264.

Liberty’s intention was that he would submit a detailed planning application in February – but maybe they are having second thoughts?

With almost half the Horsham district councillors against Mr Blevin’s plan to concrete over 15 per cent of our Strategic Gap and with nearly all the Northern planning committee wholly against him and likely to give his scheme a rough ride, local resident opposition, the costs of getting the site ready for development including major sewage and draining schemes, the A264 huge transport issue and cost to Liberty staring him in the face, the growing uncertainty about the housing market and interest rates, the Davis Commission’s preferred additional runway at Heathrow not Gatwick, further delays through a Judicial Review about the lawfulness of HDC’s planning process and the uncertain outcome... and more.

Yes Mr Blevins I think a re-think with your American masters would be sensible.

EDUARDO DELGADO

Parry Close, Horsham
