LETTER: Strong economy in a fair society

I am writing to thank the people who voted for me in the recent Warnham and Rusper by-election for West Sussex County Council.
What's on.What's on.
What's on.

Those people are loyal to the fundamental ethos of the Liberal Democrats and recognise that the Liberal Democrats are working for a stronger economy in a fairer society, enabling every person to get on in life.

They have recognised the many achievements of the Liberal Democrats in Government - such as the £600 reduction in income tax for working people, the £6.50 weekly increase in pensions and one million new apprenticeships delivered so far.

They know that we are the only pro European party, and that we are campaigning, with many of Britain’s major industrialists, to save British jobs - including 4,604 jobs in Horsham Constituency - by keeping Britain in the European Union.

We are always pleased to welcome new members and activists to the party and if any of my voters want to help us fight a stronger campaign in the next election, then I would be very pleased to hear from them.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Liz Kitchen on a well-fought campaign and to wish her well in the battle ahead against development north of Horsham’s northern bypass.

I served with her on Horsham District Council when the council developed the policy that the bypass would mark Horsham’s northern limit.

I believe that this should remain the case unless an overwhelming argument can be made for breaching it.

It seems to me that the council has given very limited consideration to alternative sites and the case it has made in favour of this site in the consultation documents has been feeble in the extreme.

Much more work will be needed to demonstrate that this is the best solution for housing in our district.
