LETTER: Success of Wings Week Appeal

Could I please take this opportunity, through the columns of your newspaper, to thank all those who contributed in any way, no matter how small, to the success of our Wings Week Appeal in honour of the 75th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain.

A special ‘thank you’ to all those who gave up their time to stand and collect at various venues, to the local businesses who allowed us to use their premises and to the people of Horsham and Storrington who gave so generously. A total of £1,722.18 was collected.

Our little branch of Horsham and Storrington still includes members who served during the Second World War, one who served with distinction with no less a squadron than the famous ‘Dambusters’. The branch and club are still very active but like so many other ex-servicemen’s associations are in need of some help.

The help we need is with the recruitment of new members, either Full Members or Associate Members. Many of our present members are by the nature of things rather elderly and are supported fully by the many Associate Members who help with the day to day running of the club and the various activities in and around the club.

The branch and the club would be delighted to welcome anyone, male or female, who may like to join a very friendly and active branch/club, with a bar and a lounge! We therefore happily invite them to one of our many events which take place weekly so they can see for themselves how we operate. You do not have to have served in the Royal Air Force to join us.
