Born in Shoreham, an empathetic Leo walked on stage, and sensitively acknowledged the feeling of loss and sadness experienced in the community following the airshow tragedy.

But The Show Must Go On, and Leo then proceeded to deliver hit after hit with a versatile four piece band.

Long Tall Glasses got everyone on their feet, as did Thunder In My Heart, and while Leo played blues harmonica on the intro to his hit ballad When I Need You, couples of all ages danced and swayed together.

It is 43 years since Leo set out on his musical career, but he was in truly remarkable voice, effortlessly performing the songs everyone wanted to hear, woven together with stories of how he was inspired to write the songs and encouraging the audience to join in with hits, including One Man Band, and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, which they did.

A couple of songs from his new album, The Restless Years, proved he still has a flair for songwriting, as the audience continued whistling the tune after he had finished.

Leo was the first artist I saw perform live 41 years ago.

He has lost none of his energy and for a while I was that teenager again.

I have to say Leo… I Can’t Stop Loving You.
