LETTER: Superb evenings of entertainment

I was very fortunate to be in the audience at the Capitol theatre in Horsham about ten days ago to see a superb performance by Nigel Kennedy. There was a packed house and it was great to see that there is such a huge audience for live music in the District.

By the standards of modern music venues the Capitol is relatively small and so full marks to our theatre manager, Nick Mowat, for getting such a prestigious performer here. The performance by Nigel Kennedy is followed this Friday (7th March) by an evening with Julian Lloyd Webber and his wife Jiaxin. The programme looks as though it will be another hugely enjoyable event.

Nigel Kennedy’s performance was linked to this year’s ‘Shipley Festival’, which though originating just in the locality around Shipley in 2000 has now become virtually Horsham District-wide. There are events still to come in Steyning, Storrington, Wisborough Green, Nuthurst and Pulborough. It is great to see how such cultural events can bring everyone in the District together.

The ‘District-wide’ Shipley Festival started on 23rd February and continues right up to 20th July and the full programme is available from various venues and online at http://www.bmglive.com/shipley-arts-festival/.

Tickets for events are bookable from The Capitol theatre online at www.thecapitolhorsham.com, in person or by telephone on 01403 750220.

I hope that next year we can help the festival grow again and offer us all even more superb evenings. I urge all readers to look at what is on this year, book early and really give this festival your strong support.
