LETTER: This week we mark World Alzheimer's Day.

Did your readers know that around 225,000 people will develop dementia in the UK this year alone?

That’s one person every three minutes. So I’d like to take a moment to tell your readers about the ways we provide support, not only to those living with the condition, but to those caring for them too.

I work for Revitalise, an incredible charity that provides respite holidays for disabled people and carers, including people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, at our Netley Waterside House respite holiday centre in Southampton. We understand that coping with the effects of dementia can at times be challenging and how having the reassurance that support is out there really can make all the difference.

Our guests really are at the heart of all that we do. That’s why we’ve created our specialist Alzheimer’s Weeks, specifically devoted to couples and families living with the condition. Every aspect of these unique weeks is designed with the needs of our guests in mind, enabling both carer and cared for to relax, take time away from the stresses of everyday life and share special moments once more.

With an ageing population that’s continuing to grow and the risk of developing age related disabilities including Alzheimer’s and dementia increasing with every year, it’s vitally important that we do all we can to support those affected.

For more information on Revitalise, our specialist Alzheimer’s Weeks, to request a brochure or to support our work, please visit www.revitalise.org.uk email [email protected], or call 0303 303 0147. Thank you.
