LETTER: Tories forget their supporters

After 13 years of the most wretched Government ever, a Government that did its best to ruin the country, those of us who have always voted Conservative were delighted and mightily relieved, when the Tories came into power in 2010, albeit slightly hamstrung by the Lib-Dems.

However, our expectations were high, in particular that the despised Regional Development Agencies would be disbanded and Prescott’s plans to concrete over the Home Counties would be shelved.

Unfortunately, the Conservative leadership has forgotten who have been their most loyal supporters and if anything, Prescott’s plans look minimalistic compared to what the Tories are doing.

Conservative supporters are realistic enough to know that Labour is the party that has done the most to destroy the NHS, with its ridiculous targets. All this did was encourage the employment of more and more administrators and when redundancies are required, it is the front line staff who lose their jobs, not the administrators who have the responsibility for cutting numbers. Go into any hospital and see for yourself.

We can also see that Labour’s plan to send every pupil to university was a mistake. Ignore the fact that many youngsters are not particularly academic, so they are either unsuited for university or the degrees they work hard for will not get them a job, but we have to import plumbers, electricians, bricklayers and carpenters from Eastern Europe, despite the fact that these are well paid jobs.

But now, and despite promises to stop penalising the motorist, the Government is busy installing stealth cameras all over the motorway system. The motoring organisations say there is no safety justification for this and it can only be yet another revenue producer.

As they say, the final straw that broke the camel’s back and a completely unnecessary and stupid one at that, and though we dread the possibility of another Labour Government, it is clear the Conservatives are not fit to govern either.
