LETTER: TV coverage was a disappointment

Like a great many others I enjoyed seeing stage 7 of the Tour of Britain cycle race speed through West Sussex. It was well worth turning out for as so few such events take place in our county.

I did notice at the time that there was no evidence of official video cameras present on the ground and no helicopter above.

Later I watched the race on television hoping to see the sprint finish in Horsham but it was not shown. In fact the television coverage ended as soon as the race left Surrey and started again when it entered East Sussex. This was a particular disappointment for it denied wide television exposure of our beautiful county which might well have enticed people from elsewhere including holiday makers to visit West Sussex next year.

One wonders therefore why television coverage of the event was banned in West Sussex but not in Surrey and East Sussex which begs the question, do we not have a West Sussex promotion executive whose job it is to seek out and take advantage of such opportunities in the interest of our county?
