LETTER: Views of silent majority ignored

Further to the report on the County Times website ‘Chairman calls police after verbal confrontation during council meeting’, I have sent the following open letter to Horsham district councillor Sheila Matthews (Ind, Henfield).

Dear Mrs Matthews

I see in our local press you feel the silent majority in the Horsham district support the council’s position in regard to the apparently preferred North Horsham development decided in private by councillors.

I have news for you, the silent majority are silent because they have not been properly asked their opinion and even had they been, HDC would ignore it as you and the other councillors always do and I would have expected more from an independent than the usual Tory Party yuckspeak.

Protecting the rural area you represent in detriment to the town is so clearly your intent that you give democracy a bad name.

Is it any wonder people don’t bother to vote when it is made so blatantly obvious at every turn that democracy is just a word you bandy about when it suits you?

You Madam are part of the problem not part of the solution and you can rest assured I will not be silent on this issue.
