Letter: We prefer the protesters at Balcombe

We live within a few hundred yards of Cuadrilla’s site in Balcombe and are strongly opposed to the drilling and possible fracking so close to the village and in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Although we find the actions of the protesters cause us some inconvenience, this is preferable to the semi-industrialisation of Balcombe which will result if fracking takes place.

We would then have to suffer extra traffic, pollution and water problems for years to come.

Why has Balcombe been chosen as the test site for SE England and who is to blame? There are a number of reasons:

- Successive governments failed to plan for our future energy needs which should have been solved 10 years ago.

They now see fracking as their salvation and Francis Maude MP has also shown complete disregard for the pleas of his constituents preferring to condemn the protesters.

-The main blame for choosing the Balcombe site must rest with Cuadrilla who did not seem to realise that choosing a location so near a village would cause a problem. There must be many sites even in the High Weald that are well away from habitation.
